A new winner will emerge as the best women footballer in Africa after Asisat Oshoala was left out of the nominees list for the 2024 edition, Sports247 reports.

In the women categories nominees’ list released by CAF on Wednesday, for the 2024 CAF awards, 2023 winner and serial winner of the CAF women player of the award Asisat Oshoala was snubbed by CAF as the body released ten players for the coveted gong.

The CAF Awards 2024 due to hold on 16 December 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco have Super Falcons duo of Raheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie alongside Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa, Barbara Banda of Zambia and Racheal Kundananji Zambia frontrunners.

Other nominees for the prestigious award are Sandrine Niyonkuru (Burundi / FC Masar), Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi / Olympique Lyonnais), Temwa Chawinga (Malawi / Kansas City), Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco / AS FAR), Jermaine Seoposenwe (South Africa / Monterrey).

Another interesting category Is the CAF Interclub Women’s Player of the Year is where six of the 10 nominees currently vying for the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League title in Morocco as the Edo Queens duo of Emem Peace Essien and Monie Oyono are in contention.

Flamingos striker Sebastian Flourish and Super Falcons goalkeeper, Nnadozie Chiamaka were also nominated for the Young Player of the year award .

The recognition of the best coach in women’s football will also be recognised at the glittering ceremony evening.

Two National team coaches from Nigeria were nominated in the coach of the year category.

Coach Bankole Olowookere, and Chris Danjuma, the coach of the Flamingos and Falconets respectively to the last FIFA U17 and U20 Women World Cup was also nominated in the Coach of the year category while Moses Aduku of Edo Queens is also recognised in the category.

In the National Team of the Year categories, three Nigerian teams were nominated along seven others.

The Super Falcons, The Nigeria U20, Falconets , and the Flamingos were among the list of ten national teams in the category.

The winners of each category will be determined through votes from a diverse panel, including the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, and the Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations, as well as clubs participating in the group stages of CAF Interclub competitions.

The CAF Awards 2024 cover the period between January 2024 and October 2024.
