During the 2024 summer transfer window, over 20 top Nigerian players abroad had to change clubs for one reason or the other, and Naija News has highlights some of them below.​


Below are the top Nigerian Players Abroad who changed clubs during the 2024 summer transfer window:

1. Victor Osimhen moved from Napoli to Galatasaray on loan. After attracting interest from several top clubs, he opted for a season-long loan deal with Galatasaray, giving him the chance to earn the same salary he was making at Napoli.

2. Frank Onyeka joined FC Augsburg on loan from Brentford after struggling to secure a regular spot on the team since joining Brentford in 2021.

3. Kelechi Iheanacho joined Sevilla in Spain as a free agent after his contract with Leicester expired. He is now playing alongside his Nigerian teammate Chidera Ejuke at Sevilla.

4. William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles captain, signed a two-year deal with Al-Kholood in Saudi Arabia with an option for an additional year.

5. Alhassan Yusuf left Royal Antwerp to join New England Revolution in the United States on a deal that will run until 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.

6. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio on a one-year loan deal from Hataspor, adding to the growing list of Nigerians who have played at the Serie A side.

7. Victor Moses returned to England after eight years by joining Luton Town upon seeing through his contract with Spartak Moscow.

8. Kelechi Nwakali took his talents to Barnsley, signing a three-year contract with the English League One side after his contract was terminated by Portuguese club Chavez for disciplinary reasons.

9. Christantus Uche, a 21-year-old striker, joined Getafe from Ceuta and made an impact by scoring on his debut.

10. Chidera Ejuke joined Sevilla following the expiration of his contract at CSKA Moscow, after being loaned out to Hertha and Royal Antwerp the previous two seasons.

11. Chidozie Awaziem signed a two-year deal with Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati after his four-year stint with Boavista.

12. Gabriel Osho joined newly promoted French Ligue 1 outfit Auxerre on a one-year deal with the option of two additional years after failing to reach an agreement with Luton Town for a contract extension.

13. Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has joined Sampdoria on a season-long loan from Inter Milan, with an option to buy and a buy-back clause in favor of Inter Milan. He made his debut for the club in a Coppa Italia match against Como.

14. Kayode Olanrewaju, amidst personal challenges, joined Şanlıurfaspor in Turkey as a free agent after his contract with Gençlerbirligi expired.

15. Oghenekaro Etebo has made a permanent move to Genclerbirligi in Turkey from Greek Super League side Aris and has already featured in four matches for his new club.

16. Benjamin Tanimu completed his move to EFL League One club Crawley Town, signing a two-year contract after playing for Tanzanian side Ihefu FC.

17. Esther Onyenezide made a move from Madrid CFF to Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Women’s League, aiming to secure regular playing time.

18. Toni Payne completed a move to Everton on a free transfer after leaving Sevilla Femeni, where she spent six years.

19. Jennifer Echegini completed a three-year contract move to PSG following her time at Juventus Women.

20. Chidinma Okeke joined Liga MX Femenil side Club América Femenil from MyNavi Sendai, becoming the fourth Super Falcons player to change clubs during the summer transfer window.
